Some of the cities are metropolitan regions comprised of two or more municipalities, while others are single municipalities. The cities listed here do not all follow the same rules for boundary limitations. A highrise is a multi-floored building of at least 12 stories or 35 meters in height (115 feet). This excludes other types of buildings such as towers and lowrises, and highrises of different statuses (construction, proposed, etc). It is no surprise that cities with a high population and limited space such as New York have an increasingly large number of skyscrapers. The highrises column is a count of the number of completed highrises. Skyscrapers are more of a necessity than a luxury. Hong Kong, along with Shenzhen (2), and Guangzhou (5) are part of the burgeoning megacity known as the Pearl River Delta, which is home to over 1,500 skyscrapers. This includes structures such as highrises, towers and lowrises, but excludes other miscellaneous structures, and buildings of different statuses (construction, proposed, etc). Topping the charts is Hong Kong, with an impressive 657 skyscrapers, including six supertalls (buildings over 300 meters tall).
